A Review of That Certain Spark by Cathy Marie Hake

Cathy Marie Hake has been one of my favorite authors and I held her books up to a high standard. I was so disappointed in this book. I had to make myself finish it. The story was so bland and the interactions between Karl and Taylor were boring. They spent more time arguing and most of the plot involved conversations between characters. There was no spark between Taylor and Karl. None at all. Their love story seemed very forced and contrived. I also thought the story between Enoch and Mercy was very hard to believe. He wanted to marry her right after he met her and she felt the exact same. I wanted to roll my eyes it was just so unrealistic. The book was boring and the relationships between the characters seemed forced. I didn't like this book at all and I would not recommend it. It is a shame because I have enjoyed all of Hake's other novels that I have read.

Review of Whirlwind by Cathy Marie Hake

I really enjoyed this book. I thought that the plot was creative and interesting. I liked that the book took place on a ship and you got to read about Millicent's and Daniel's journey to Gooding. There were a few twists in the book that were not expected, which I always enjoy because it makes me want to keep reading. I loved all of the character interactions and Millicent's and Daniel's love seemed genuine. I also really liked the ending and I think that the author gave the reader's exactly what they were hoping for.
